Big Blue Money

Welcome to Big Blue Money!

Why Big?

Well, I am hoping I can manage to write more than just this single opening post and the aim is to update this blog regularly so that it does indeed become a big blog full of useful information covering my thoughts on a range of subjects.

Why Blue?

It is my favourite colour and I also like the fact it begins with a ‘B’ as well. Alliterations always sound good. We now have Big and Blue so it was going to have to be Big Blue Something but unlike that group, I don’t want to have breakfast at Tiffany’s instead I would like to blog about a topic that fascinates me.

Why Money?

I have always been obsessed with money from a young age. I always find it interesting trying to understand how two different people can receive the same amount of money and yet one can go on to become rich and the other can get themselves into debt because of the different choices that they each make.

Over the years I have learned loads of useful pieces of information about money and personal finances. Over the years I have also forgotten or lost loads of useful pieces of information on money and personal finances.

Big Blue Money

The aim of Big Blue Money is, therefore, to provide me with somewhere to document and record all sorts of different ways to save money, make money and make the money I have go further. It will allow me to chart my progress and provide me with an opportunity in the future to look back and understand why I made various decisions as opposed to other decision and to see which ones went right and which ones went wrong.

In general the expectation is that most of the posts will be about money and will cover topics such as bank accounts, peer to peer (P2P) lending, cashback rewards, side hustles, getting out of debt, freebies, tax efficiency, books I am reading and basically anything that piques my interest at any given time.

I have spent a lot of time over the years reading about other people’s thoughts, opinions and experiences in books and blogs and felt it was time to start my own blog and am really looking forward to seeing how Big Blue Money develops.

I am certainly not claiming to be a money-making magician nor am I a money saving expert. I have over the years I have earned a few pennies here and there. During this time I have managed to reduce my debts, pay off my mortgage and am currently building up my savings and pension.

My aim is to have enough savings and investments to allow me to become financially independent and to retire early. I will need to fire up a spreadsheet and do some calculations to see when this could be achieved this but that will be a post for another day.

Learning how to blog

I am new to this blogging malarkey and will probably need to spend a bit of time sorting out how the blog is laid out, where to obtain photos, which plugins to use, how to back up the blog and how to keep it secure. In the meantime please bear with me if I wander off the topic of money and onto how to blog.

At some point, it would be good to attract some readers to the blog so they can provide some feedback on the blog and my posts. No doubt at some stage I will also have to learn a bit about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

Social media is probably another area that I will need to get to grips with as I try to expand readership and it would be beneficial if I could learn to promote Big Blue Money on Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter.

Today, however, is all about posting the first post so if you are reading this then please feel free to leave a comment in the section below.
